We regularly recognize a K2 consultant who has received outstanding client feedback on their recent project.
This month the K2 Consultant of the Month is Luz Ortiz, a Project Manager. Read her interview below:
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born in Mexico City and now based there, but I have lived in the USA and Peru.
I’ve been working as a consultant since 2010. Today I'm a Project Manager Professional, certified by PMI since 2017 and also certified as a Scrum Master. I'm specialized in the consumer business industry, working with several big corporations.
I'm married with two kids and a beautiful dog. I enjoy spending time with them and my friends, as well as watching horror movies. I love traveling and trying the local food of the countries I visit. I also never say no to a glass of good wine!
2. Tell us a little about your most recent K2 project.
My last project was with a large food and drink company, where I was in charge as the Project Manager for the SAP commercial modules implementation in their Mexican distribution centers. The technical challenges mainly surrounded the treatment of master data and the integration with the mobile application used by the Salesforce.
Another big challenge was the change management strategy. The end-users were working with the same system for several years and a resistance for change was something we had to address to have a successful implementation.
3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy the most is helping people to solve their problems. I really enjoy helping them to find solutions, working with them, getting to know different personalities and serving as a link between the different teams involved in the project.
4. Which technical development do you think will have the biggest impact on your field or the wider world of IT over the next couple of years?
Regarding IT technical developments, I certainly believe that cloud applications, AI developments and the broader use of Agile ways of working inside the companies are having big impacts in business and society in general.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is starting out as a freelance IT consultant?
First of all, set goals aimed at continual learning. Stay updated about the innovations in your field, be super organized with personal and job matters, develop strong relationships with the client, have open communication with them, be honest and ethical and an enthusiastic member of the team. Strive to deliver your best performance in a timely manner.
