Words of Wisdom for Recruiters

It doesn’t matter if you are new to recruitment or have been doing it for as long as you can remember, recruitment is a career that builds character, in every sense of the word. You continually grow in self-confidence and personality, learn how to respect different cultures and communicate with individuals, and how to recover from the inevitable disappointments that happen when one works in a people-centric industry. Recruitment also gives you the opportunity to learn how technology is redefining the business landscape across all industries. It is no different than most careers in the sense that it takes patience, stamina and a lot of persistence to ‘make it’.

We asked the K2 community to share their best pieces of advice on what it takes to find success. There are contributions from across the business, from our CEO to some of our most recent hires.

“Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning!”

Use every opportunity you have to ask how you can do better!

Learn

“The extra mile is a vast, unpopulated wasteland.”

Make sure you go there with your customers, your candidates and yourself – then you will be a success in recruitment!

Stretch of Road

“A sense of urgency is key! If you put off the call until after lunch, or tomorrow, or take your time going through call lists you will be beaten, either by someone in house or a competitor.”

Hourglass

“Relationships: Your ability to build a network and find common ground with people by being honest, genuine and likeable will help you.”

Networking

“Discipline: this can be a tough business. I see people watching the clock waiting for the end of the day to get out of there. I’m a believer in stopping when you feel you’re out of gas for the day, and the same discipline you apply in the gym telling yourself to run 10 more minutes should be applied to your professional life. Push yourself to do 5 or 10 more calls. Turning it up that one degree can change your whole state!”

Runner

“It’s important to be transparent and to share the experiences. I thought I had seen it all until I moved to a different region! The game changer was understanding the culture and the values of each consultant I was talking to in the new market. All of a sudden, I was seeing my candidates as partners who were helping me be successful. Understanding their needs is the key to a healthy and respectful working relationship!”

Meeting

“Never assume – just ask questions. Always!!”

Question Mark

“Be humble and aim for the stars!”
